Abstract

Background

The main objective of this systematic review is to determine the effectiveness of comprehensive occupational rehabilitation programs for RTW among people on long-term sickness absence, and to identify existing research gaps in this area. Other objectives of this review are: To investigate intervention features that increase or decrease success-rate of RTW interventions. To investigate individual background factors such as diagnosis, age, gender, education, and occupational status that may affect intervention efficacy.

Methods

This review will address the effect of RTW interventions designed as randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with follow up of minimum three months after intervention. Other study types than RCTs will be excluded. We expect to find enough RCT studies based on a scoping search. The inclusion of RCTs is based on the Cochrane definition and criteria for randomized controlled trials.
